Kanjirakolly Travel Guide

Kanjirakolly is one of the emerging tourism destinations in Kannur district of Kerala. Situated in the Western Ghats, along with the other Hill stations in Kannur,  Palakkayam Thattu and Paithalmala, Kanjirakolly is an enchanting destination for trekkers, photographers and nature lovers.

The highest point at Kanjirakolly hills is at an altitude of 3100 feet from sea level. Palakkayam Thattu is 36 kilometers and Paithalmala is 20 kilometers away from here. Sasippara and Alakapuri Waterfalls are the main tourist attractions in Kanjirakolly. Sasippara is a huge rock situated near Kanjirakolly hill.

One can have a panoramic view of the valley and Karnataka Reserve forest from Sasippara Viewpoint. Alakapuri waterfalls is situated about 4 kilometers away from Sasippara.

Kanjirakolly is almost 60 Kilometers (37.28 Miles) away from Kannur Town. Nearest towns are Kudiyanmala and Chandanakkampara. This is one of the most visited destinations among the local people of Kannur. It is a most suitable place for a single day trip. The stunning views of  Alakapuri waterfalls adds to the beauty of Kanjirakolly.

Kanjirakolly is located at  60 km from Kannur and 45 km from Taliparamba. The nearest national highway is at Taliparamba is National Highway 66 which connects Goa and Mumbai in the north and Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram in the South. The nearest town is Naduvil. When Driving from Kannur, The shortest route (55.8 km) is Kannur- Chirakkal – Mayyil – Sreekandapuram – Payyavoor – Kanjirakolly. When Driving From Taliparamba, the route is Taliparamba – Valakkai – Sreekandapuram – Payyavoor– Chandanakkam para –Kanjirakolly. The nearest Railway station is Kannur Railway Station (CAN). The nearest Airports are  Calicut International Airport (CCJ) (157 km) and  Mangalore International Airport (IXE) (178 km). After Reaching Sreekandapuram, You can get private buses to the destination.

Kanjirakolly Climate

As this is the part of the western Ghats this place experiences tropical climate. The temperature rises up to 35-40 degrees in the summer and  falls down to 19 degrees in the winter. April is the hottest month and December and January are the coldest.  As Kerala have two monsoon seasons, Kanjirakolly recieves a significant amount of rainfall. Monsoon is the best time to visit of you are a photographer, else it will be fine if you can visit there after the rains, October – February. If you are planning to visit after February, make sure you can cope with the summer heat, and remember to carry some water with you.
