Muzhappilangad Beach is a scenic Drive in beach in Kannur District of Kerala. This beach is situated parallel to the National Highway 17 between Kannur and Thalassery. Huge black rocks sets the boundary for this beach. This is the only beach in Kerala in which we can drive vehicles. Muzhappilangad Beach is the longest drive-in beach in Asia.

The 5 km long seashore like a big arc offers a magnificent view of sea. For those who love driving and bike ride, the drive through Muzhappilangad Beach will be a unique experience. You can drive freely through the water and land within speed limit.

Dharmadam Thuruth (Dharmadam Island) is a beautiful island situated about 200 meters away from the beach. This island is famous among adventure tourists.

Muzhappilangad Beach is located at 14 km from Kannur and 12 km from Thalassery. The nearest national highway is  National Highway 66 which connects Goa and Mumbai in the north and Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram in the South. The nearest town is Muzhappilngad. When Driving from Kannur, The shortest route (14 km) is along Kannur- Thalassery road. Kannur- Thazhe Chovva – Thottada- Muzhappilangad – Muzhappilangad Beach. When Driving From Thalassery, the route is Thalassery – Dharmadam – Muzhappilangad – Muzhappilangad Beach.  The nearest Mjor Railway station is Thalassery Railway Station (TLY). The nearest Airport is    Calicut International Airport (CCJ) (105 km) . If you Prefer Public Transport,there are several buses from Kannur and Thalassery to Muzhappilangad. You can get a bus in less than 15 minutes from Muzhappilangad to Kannur and Thalassery.

Muzhappilangad Attractions

We can Drive through the four-kilometer long section of Muzhappilangad beach. As the water moves up during the tide, the sands here are drenched so that the tires will not fall in the sand. The sand is firm so that we can drive smoothly throughout the beach. As the water is not so deep, tourists can bath in the sea too.

The beach festival is held here in the months of April and May every year. Sea adventures, fun games, children’s entertainment programs, art and cultural events and exhibitions will be conducted here as the part of the festival. Muzhappilangad Beach attracts hundreds of tourists every day on the day. People come here to relax and watch the sunset in the evenings. There are many resorts working near the beach.  During winters, many migratory birds visit Muzhappilangad.

Muzhappilangad Beach is listed as one of the six world’s best drive-in beaches in BBC Auto. Muzhappilangad is the largest among them from Asia. A Five kilometers drive for single stroke will be a great experience to riders. It is an adventure drive with a water bath in sea water. If you are not interested in driving now, you can go to the small rocks nearby and enjoy the scenic beauty of the beach. We can find several small streams that flow through rocky cliffs, baby ponds, surrounded by rocks, and palm trees on the shore. The number of expatriates who visit the beach is increasing every year.
