Pazhassi Dam Travel Guide

The Pazhassi Dam is situated near Iritty and Irikkur in Kannur District. The dam site and surroundings are renowned among tourists for its scenic beauty. There is a garden associated with the dam, and The tourism department have made arrangements for boating in the reservoir. A children’s park is also functioning near the dam. Pazhassi Dam was an Irrigation project, which is meant to ensure regular water supply to nearby agricultural lands in Kannur. In addition, The authorities have made a park here for the visitors. But After a heavy flood in 2016, the park is heavily damaged and no renovation work has been initiated till June 2017.

But Still, This area is very calm and Quiet, if you need some Place to sit and relax, This place will be one of the best in Kannur. The Pazhassi Dam ins only 10 km away from the birthplace of the famous Pazhassi Raja. This dam is built across the Valapattanam river which flows from Coorg in Karnataka to Kannur in Kerala.

The construction of the dam was completed in 1978. It supplies water o Thalassery and Taliparamba Taluks of Kannur District. The Pazhassi King Statue and Buddha Sculpture is one of the main attractions of the Pazhassi Dam Park.

How to Reach Pazhassi Dam

The Pazhassi Dam is located at an equal distance of  36 km from Kannur and Thalassery. The nearest national highway  is National Highway 66 which connects Goa and Mumbai in the north and Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram in the South. When Driving from Kannur, The shortest route (36 km) is Kannur- Mele Chovva – Mattannur – Pazhassi Dam.  The nearest Railway stations are Kannur Railway Station (CAN) and Thalassery Railway Station (TLY). The nearest Airport is  Calicut International Airport (CCJ) (126 km) . The Proposed Kannur International Airport is just 13 km from here.

Visitors can visit Pazhassi Dam at anytime. It will better if you can avoid rainy season. The dam is usually open at all days.
