Sasippara, Kanjirakolly – Travel Guide

Sasippara is one of the emerging tourism destinations in Kannur.  It is located in the Kanjirakolly village close to the Kerala-Karnataka border. Paithalmala, another famous hill station in Kannur district is just 20 kilometers away from here. Kanjirakolly village is situated in the Western Ghat mountain ranges. This village shares the border with the Coorg forest in Karnataka. Sasippara is famous for the breathtaking views from the top of the rock which is situated at an altitude of 1900 feet from the sea level.

One can have a panoramic view of the Kanjirakolly valley and Karnataka Reserve forest from Sasippara Viewpoint. Another tourist attraction at Kanjirakolly, Alakapuri Waterfalls are just 4 kilometers away from sasippara.

Sasippara is almost 60 Kilometers (37.28 Miles) away from Kannur Town. Nearest towns are Kudiyanmala and Chandanakkampara. Sasippara, along with Alakapuri Waterfalls is a most suitable place in Kannur for a single day trip.

Sasippara is situated at Kanjirakolly village, which is located at  60 km from Kannur and 45 km from Taliparamba. The nearest national highway is at Taliparamba is National Highway 66 which connects Goa and Mumbai in the north and Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram in the South. The nearest town is Naduvil. When Driving from Kannur, The shortest route (55.8 km) is Kannur- Chirakkal – Mayyil – Sreekandapuram – Payyavoor – Kanjirakolly – Sasippara. When Driving From Taliparamba, the route is Taliparamba – Valakkai – Sreekandapuram – Payyavoor– Chandanakkam para –Kanjirakolly – Sasippara. The nearest Railway station is Kannur Railway Station (CAN). The nearest Airports are  Calicut International Airport (CCJ) (157 km) and  Mangalore International Airport (IXE) (178 km). After Reaching Sreekandapuram, You can get private buses to the destination.

Sasippara Climate

Sasippara experiences tropical climate because this region is situated in the Western Ghats. In the summer, the  temperature rises up to 35-40 degrees and in the winter it falls down to 15-19 degrees . April is the hottest and December and January are the coldest months. If you are a photographer, monsoon is the best time to visit, else it will be fine if you can visit there after the rains, October to February. If you are planning to visit after February, you will miss the misty view of Kanjirakolly valley from Sasippara. Make sure you can cope with the summer heat, and remember to carry some water with you. Some people may not find the view of  Kanjirakolly valley in the summer so interesting.
