Kovalam Beach Travel Guide

Kovalam Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Kerala. There are three nearby beaches in the vicinity. Kovalam is a favorite holiday destination for Europeans since the 1930s. Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and true to its name the village offers an endless sight of coconut trees.

It is the Kovalam Beach which brought Thiruvananthapuram to the tourism map of the world. Kovalam is visited by thousands of foreign tourists every year. Kovalam is a favorite destination for the locals too. People from other districts and from other places in Thiruvananthapuram too come to Kovalam Beach to spend the evening.
There are three different beaches in Kovalam. Light House Beach is at the southern end.  The unique feature of this beach is the 30 m tall lighthouse. The next is the Hawa Beach.  This is the most favorite destination of the  foreign tourists in Thiruvananthapuram, because of the sunbath facilities here. The third is the Ashoka Beach. In addition there are many private beaches owned by resorts, hotels in Kovalam. Kovalam is at a distance of about 18 km from Thiruvananthapuram city.

Kovalam beach becomes active by the afternoon and it lasts till late in the night. Facilities like low-rental cottages, Ayurveda resorts, shopping centers, convention facilities, swimming pools, yoga parks and Ayurveda massage centers are also available nearby the beach.

How to Reach Kovalam Beach

Kovlam Beach is easily accessible from Thiruvananthapuram Airport and Railway Station. The shortest distance fom Thiruvananthapuram to Kovalam beach is 18 km.  Thiruvananthapuram International airport is just 15 km from the beach. You can hire a taxi from Railway Station or Airport, or get a Bus from Thampanoor / East Fort to reach kovalam beach. Buses are available from 6am to 8pm at bus stops in East Fort. Bus is available every 15 minutes. The Low Floor AC bus terminal of KURTC is available for Kovalam.

There are many other tourist attractions in and around the city of Thiruvananthapuram. The Napier Museum, Sree Chitra Art Gallery, Padmanabhaswamy Temple and Ponmudi are few of them.
